Lake Region State College is committed to creating a welcoming campus community where all people have access to our educational programs, activities, residence halls, and employment. We understand that for our campus to be welcoming and safe, it must be free from all forms of discrimination. Our goal is to provide information and educational resources about sexual misconduct prevention and awareness.
What is Title IX?
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX) is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in federally funded educational programs and activities. Under Title IX, sexual assault and sexual harassment are forms of discrimination on the basis of sex. The Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, which enforces Title IX, has recently provided detailed guidance on how educational institutions like Lake Region State College must investigate and respond to complaints of sexual misconduct and sexual harassment. Learn more in Questions and Answers on Title IX and Sexual Violence from the Department of Education.
Title IX protection from discrimination extends to faculty, staff, students and campus visitors and includes such things as: sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, gender-identity and pregnancy. It also prohibits retaliation against anyone who makes a report or participates in an investigation.
