Peace Officer program to graduate 14

Lake Region State College will hold graduation for its fall Peace Officer Training program December 16th at 1:00 pm in Robert Fawcett Auditorium.

The Certificate in Peace Officer Training is a rigorous one-semester program that satisfies the training requirements for employment as a peace officer in North Dakota. This year 14 students completed the Peace Officer Training program. Eleven of those students already have been hired in the law enforcement field.

Lt. John Maritato, director of LRSC’s Peace Officer program said the job market for peace officers continues to be strong.
“Law enforcement officers are needed throughout North Dakota and the U.S.,” Maritato said.
Successful completion of the program allows graduates to become licensable as peace officers in ND. Instructors for the Peace Officer Training program include law enforcement professionals from various law enforcement agencies.

Another academy will start mid-January in Minot. Applications are still being accepted for the Minot academy as well as summer academies that will run from May-August in both Grand Forks and West Fargo.

Lake Region State College is the only college in the state authorized to deliver a North Dakota Peace Officer Standards and Training academy. The college began training peace officers in 1987 and has graduated around 2,000 license eligible students since that time.
