LRSC celebrates Constitution Day

LRSC is celebrating the Constitution!

Constitution Day is celebrated each September 17th. On this date in 1787, delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the document in Philadelphia. In 2004, it became federal law that all publicly funded educational institutions, and all federal agencies, recognize and showcase the Constitution with educational activities and/or events.

Students received a Constitution Day quiz in their email. The quiz runs through September 21st. Other activities include:

  • Short essay contest – It’s a year with many local, state, and national elections. Tell us why you vote or why you think voting is important. Please send in a sentence or paragraph to lrsc.marketing@lrsc.edu by September 21st. One submission will be selected for a gift certificate to the Bookstore.
  • Photo of the week is back! What is Photo of the Week? Each week we will request that faculty, staff, and students submit photos based on a theme for the week. One winner will be selected each week. At semester end, all weekly winners will be put in a drawing for a $100 Bookstore certificate. Anyone who submits a photo acknowledges that the college can use the photo in promotions. This week’s theme is the U.S. Constitution. Submit photos that show the U.S. Constitution at work in your daily life. Photos can be sent to lrsc.marketing@lrsc.edu. Deadline is September 21st.
  • Check out some U.S. themed goodies in the Dining Center at lunch on Thursday!
  • And, coming later this semester – videos and discussion that revolve around constitutional rights and heroes for the people. More information will be shared in the near future.
