LRSC Graduation May 10

Commencement exercises for Lake Region State College will be held Friday, May 10th, at 10:00 am in the Robert Fawcett Auditorium.

This year around 280 students are eligible to participate in the ceremony, according to the LRSC Registrar’s office. 

These students have graduated in fall, spring, or summer term. The graduation ceremony encompasses all LRSC programs and locations even though some specific programs have held honorary events. The Adult Education Center held graduation ceremonies May 8.  LRSC Grand Forks Air Force Base graduation was May 4 and its Peace Officer Training Program in Minot was April 26. 

Giving the keynote address will be Mina Simhai, a graduate of Devils Lake High school and the daughter of the late Toofawn Simhai, LRSC’s long-time Chief Information Officer.   Simhai is an educator, facilitator, international speaker, and consultant specializing in resilience building, mindfulness, strengths, and increasing engagement.  She blends her expertise in positive psychology with practical knowledge earned advising investment banks, multinationals and the U.S. government on financing and large infrastructure projects in the US and around the world.  

In her legal career, Mina was a corporate attorney at Skadden Arps in New York and Hogan & Hartson (now Hogan Lovells) in Washington DC, and she also served as a senior attorney for the U.S. government, negotiating and implementing multi-million dollar grants to foreign governments with Millennium Challenge Corporation and investigating the causes of the financial crisis with the Financial Crisis Inquiry Committee.  

She holds a Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington DC (cum laude), a B.A. in economics (summa cum laude) from Baylor University in Waco TX, and is currently enrolled in the Masters of Applied Positive Psychology program at the University of Pennsylvania, MAPP degree expected in August of 2019.  She teaches positive psychology at George Washington University in Washington DC and serves as the 2019 fellow for Whole Leader Consulting and The LeaderMom Project.  She lives in Arlington, VA with her husband, son, daughter and father.  

Established in 1941, Lake Region State College is a comprehensive community college based in Devils Lake, ND.  LRSC offers education in a variety of career and technical programs and associate arts (transfer) degree for those planning to transfer and pursue a bachelor’s degree. The college offers its peace officer training program in Minot each spring, Grand Forks and Fargo each summer; its nursing program in Grand Forks and Mayville; is part of the Grand Forks Air Force Base Education Center; has a program called LAUNCH! that serves students in Grand Forks planning on transferring to UND; numerous degrees and courses online; and early entry and dual credit courses for eligible high school students.
