Green Book showing Feb. 13

On February 13 at 6:00 pm, Lake Region State College Student Senate and the Community College Foundation will show the film Green Book in the Robert Fawcett Auditorium.

The Green Book is set in the Deep South in the 1960s, it follows a tour between African-American classical and jazz pianist Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali) and Tony Valleonga (Viggo Mortensen) and Italian American bouncer who served and Shirley’s driver and bodyguard.

The Green Book is named after The Negro Motorist Green Book, which was a publication which shared where it was safe for African Americans to travel in the Deep South in an era of Jim Crowe Laws.

The Green Book made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival where it won the prestigious People’s Choice Award.  It also won the 2019 Golden Globe Awards for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor.
