Sydney Wardner attended LRSC from fall 2019 to spring 2022, earning her associate of nursing degree. She chose Lake Region after hearing positive feedback from former nursing students in her hometown. Reflecting on her experience, Sydney said, "Some of the best memories at LRSC were with softball teammates and nursing classmates. One that stands out is attending open skate night at Burdick Arena for a campus event!"

Sydney credits her royal ambassador advisor, Ashlee Collison, as a major influence during her time at LRSC. “During my time at LRSC, every staff member was kind and helpful,” Sydney said. She added, “She was my biggest supporter and genuinely took an interest in me and my degree.”

When offering advice to new students, Sydney said, "Going to college can be stressful if making new friends is difficult. At LRSC, a smaller campus, you can make friends easily by joining activities with other students."

Sydney currently works as an associate degree nurse at Altru in the surgical department.

“I would tell students to look at Lake Region State College because of the great environment.

I’ve been given many opportunities such as student senate where I get to be the vice president, secretary and treasurer. I am royal ambassador, invited into honor society, and I’ll graduate in one year. I have scholarship money to pay for fall and spring semester and then some.

I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t come here, especially with dual credit, since it opens many doors for futures.”

Erin received scholarships from Campus Clan & Kin, Darling Family, and Klemetsrud Family endowments.

“I am currently studying Liberal Arts at LRSC. After graduation, I plan to earn Bachelor’s in History Education and become a high school history teacher. I am also President of the Student Senate, a valuable extracurricular for getting involved in student government.

I have so far received the James Wakefield and American Bank Center Scholarships and I feel very honored. Receiving these shows my hard work, helps financially, and enhances my transcript.”

Nicole chose Lake Region State College because it’s a great place to start your college path.

“Why pay more to take the classes at a four-year university when you can take them at a two-year school?”

She found cost savings at LRSC because students only pay for the first 12 on-campus credits. Additional on-campus credits are a bonus. Nicole says all her instructors are great and they truly care about your well-being.

Nicole is the recipient of the Jay & Mavis Gerrells Scholarship endowment

“Because LRSC is only 30 miles from my hometown, it was the perfect location go back and forth to school. I could also take care of my livestock. In addition, attending LRSC cost must less than going to a larger university.”

After college Jarrel plans to earn a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. “Aside from LRSC’s lower tuition compared to a four-year school, scholarships have been a huge blessing to me. I have been able to pay my way through my Associate’s without taking out student loans. I want to thank those who give to institutions for various scholarships. Your contributions do not go to waste.”

Jarrel received the David and Jamie Nienhuis Scholarship and Darling Family Scholarship.

Scholarships played a huge role in Tucker Bercier’s college journey. He chose LRSC because it was a way to learn to be independent yet close to home. While at LRSC he’s received honor scholarships, the Susan E. Greenleaf endowed scholarship and external scholarships.

“Scholarships have been beneficial in allowing me to focus on the content of my studies, rather than the financial burdens. The generous donors of LRSC have helped shape my entire career path, so I am forever grateful."

After graduating this December, Bercier transferred to continue studies with a goal of being a social science educator.
