Over the past decade, North Dakota's wind capacity has increased by more than 50 percent. This growth highlights the need for a trained renewable energy workforce. Lake Region State College anticipated this demand and launched North Dakota’s first wind energy technician program.

Students can complete a one-year certificate or a two-year associate in applied science degree. Both options prepare graduates for careers in the wind energy industry. John Jundt earned his certificate and now works at a wind farm near Hebron, North Dakota. By continually investing in renewable energy education and workforce development, Lake Region State College prepares students for successful careers. It contributes to North Dakota's position as a leader in clean energy production.

As a wind technician instructor and baseball coach, I know it takes a team to succeed. With a diverse energy mix, North Dakota is an energy powerhouse, producing homegrown energy that powers the country. In fact, North Dakota is a producer state. Like our crops, we consume less energy than we produce, making homegrown energy an exported commodity in the state.

This abundance of energy is necessary for the extreme energy demand we are seeing from technological advancements nationwide. Without multiple reliable U.S. energy sources, we risk shortages, uncertainty, and higher energy prices for consumers.

The benefit of growing our clean energy workforce goes beyond keeping pace with changing technology. It sends a message to U.S. manufacturers, major businesses, and other industries that North Dakota can meet energy needs. This growth brings jobs not only to the clean energy sector but also to numerous different industries.

The growth of our wind energy technician program reflects our commitment to sustainability and economic growth. An all-of-the-above energy approach keeps us resilient and adaptable to changing technology. This benefits local communities and the entire United States.
