Lake Region State College has announced changes in its athletics department.

Current Athletic Director Jared Marshall will be transitioning into a new role with the college’s foundation. He will continue to serve as head men’s basketball coach.

Lake Region State College is advancing its initiatives to fundraise for and construct a dedicated athletic facility.  LRSC President Carmen Simone said Marshall has participated in the planning process for the facility and has actively contributed to fundraising efforts for LRSC Athletics.

“This new role allows Jared to assist in fundraising for the new athletic facility. His history with the college and past fundraising with LRSC Athletics make him a great addition to the Foundation team,” she said.

Head Women’s Basketball Coach Colden Hutton is being promoted to Athletic Director. Hutton will continue in his role as Dual Credit Coordinator.

“Colden has been a dedicated member of the LRSC community and has done excellent work with our women’s basketball program and our dual credit partnerships. His leadership, organization, and commitment to student success will serve him well in guiding our athletic programs,” Simone said.

Hutton’s move into the Athletic Director role means vacating his head coaching position. LRSC will immediately begin a search for a head Women’s Basketball Coach.

“This structure will help move our athletic programs forward while also supporting the momentum behind the new athletic facility project,” said Erin Wood, Vice President for Advancement and Executive Director for the Community College Foundation.

Marshall has been at LRSC since 2014, serving as assistant men’s basketball coach for the 2014-2015 season and moving to head men’s basketball coach later in 2015. He was named LRSC Athletic Director in 2021.

“Serving as the Athletic Director for LRSC has been one of the greatest honors of my career. I am incredibly proud of what our student athletes and coaches have achieved together,” Marshall said.

Marshall added that although he is stepping away from athletic administration, he is excited to be in a fundraising role for LRSC.

“My passion is on the sidelines as head coach and building resources for LRSC Athletics,” he said.

Hutton served as assistant men’s basketball coach and interim head women’s basketball in the 2021-2022 season. He returned to LRSC as head women’s basketball coach in 2024.

“I am excited to transition into the role of athletic director at LRSC. Helping our student athletes and coaches be successful in the classroom, on the court/field/ice, and in the community is something I am thrilled to lead,” Hutton said.
