Undergraduate Master Student (ENGL 100) - 2-3 credits
Introduction to skills needed to succeed in college lectures, in-class exercises, communication with instructors and each other; understanding videos, guest speakers, learning modules, and textbooks.


Technical Communications (ENGL 105) - 3 credits
Development of written and oral communication skills, instruction in writing applications, résumés, various types of letters, and oral expression.


College Composition I (ENGL 110) - 3 credits
Guided practice in college-level reading, writing, and critical thinking.
Fall, Spring, and Summer semester.


College Composition II (ENGL 120) - 3 credits
Advanced practice in college-level writing from sources and in applying rhetorical strategies.
Prerequisite: ENGL 110.
Fall, Spring, and Summer semester.


Introduction to Professional Writing (ENGL 125) - 3 credits
Advanced practice in college-level writing which emphasizes writing and research in professional settings.
Spring semester.


Library Orientation (ENGL 150) - 1 credit
Introduction to skills and concepts necessary for research. Basic understanding of reference materials, electronic and paper indexes, electronic data base resources, and a general knowledge of services offered by the library.

Introduction to Drama (ENGL 221) - 2 credits
Survey of drama from Greek times to the present studied as a literary type for understanding and for critical appreciation.


Introduction to Fiction (ENGL 224) - 2 credits
Study of representative short stories and novels and their historical and literary backgrounds.


Introduction to the Novel (ENGL 225) - 3 credits
Study of long works of fiction illustrating the history of the form, its purposes, and its audiences.


Bible as Literature (ENGL 231) - 3 credits
Examination of the Bible’s literature with an emphasis on biblical culture, history, and geography as well as comparisons of translations.


Mythology (ENGL 232) - 3 credits
Study of representative myths, legends, and folklore from various cultures with emphasis upon the literary aspects of myths.


Children’s Literature (ENGL 238) - 3 credits
Introductory survey of picture books, poetry, folklore, fantasy, realistic fiction, biography, and informational books for children from infancy through puberty.


World Literature I (ENGL 241) - 3 credits
Readings from the major representative texts of the western European tradition from antiquity through medieval times.


World Literature II (ENGL 242) - 3 credits
Continuing survey of the western European tradition, including representative texts from the Renaissance through the modern world.


British Literature I (ENGL 251) - 3 credits
Survey of major works and writers in British Literature from the Anglo-Saxon Period through the Eighteenth Century.


British Literature II (ENGL 252) - 3 credits
Survey of major works and writers in British Literature from the Romantic Age to the present.


American Literature I (ENGL 261) - 3 credits
Survey of major works and writers in American Literature from the British Colonial Period through the Civil War.
Spring semester.


American Literature II (ENGL 262) - 3 credits
Survey of major works and writers in American Literature from the Civil War to the present.
Fall semester.


Special Topics (ENGL 299) - 1-3 credits
Varying areas of content, issues, or themes in study of language and literature.
Approval of instructor.
