English as a Second Language (ASC 067) - 1-3 credits Help for students who speak English as a second language to communicate effectively in daily life. Areas of concentration include speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Upon recommendation of the instructor, this course may be repeated for additional credit. Fall and Spring semester.
Applied Study Skills (ASC 076) - 1-3 credits Instruction for individuals or small groups in mathematics, english, science, and spelling. A student may earn one to three semester hours of credit. Fall and Spring semester.
Critical Reading (ASC 084) - 3 credits Instruction for individuals or small groups in reading. Provides extra help for students wanting to increase their reading rate or enlarge their vocabulary. Fall and Spring semester.
Writing Basics (ASC 086) - 3 credits Rules of grammar, punctuation, word usage, and basic paragraph structure and techniques needed to write effectively. Designed for students who do not feel competent to enter English 110, or whose test scores indicate a lack of basic English skills. Fall and Spring semester.
Composition Lab (ASC 088) - 1 credit Supplemental and developmental instruction taken concurrently with a first year English course. Instruction based on student need with time allowed for application to English course assignments. This course may be repeated when taking another composition course. Fall and Spring semester.
Pre-Algebra (ASC 091) - 3 credits Designed for students who do not feel competent to enter intermediate algebra or whose test scores indicate a lack of basic mathematical skills. Individualized for those students who need to restore confidence and eliminate math anxiety. Fall and Spring semester.
Beginning Algebra (ASC 092) - 3 credits Fundamental operations, signed numbers, real numbers, linear and quadratic equations, radicals, inequalities, exponents, and factoring. For students with little or no background in algebra. Fall and Spring semester.
