Administrative Assistant -- secretarial

Career options: Choose Yours Enroll in Administrative Assistant program and you will learn the practical skills you need to succeed in today's high-paced and competitive work environment. The Administrative Assistant program offers a Certificate, Diploma and Associate in Applied Science degree. Students can choose Medical or Legal option to enhance their skills.
Certificate program will open doors to a positions in processing centers and general offices.
Diploma coursework focuses on skill-building for administrative assistant employment.
Medical Option prepares you to work in settings such as hospitals, medical offices, pharmaceutical companies, medical insurance companies, etc.
Legal Option gives you opportunity to work in law offices, courts, and legal department of large businesses. The Associate in Applied Science degree also includes 20-credit general education requirement to give you solid educational background.

The Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Conference, Get the Edge! was held at the Hilton in Anaheim, California June 20-24, 2009. Two students from LRSC made it through the preliminaries and then competed in the finals against other colleges and universities in the United States.
In the Business Ethics event, Pam Lafrenz from Langdon and Lisa Howard from Sheyenne took 7th place honors.
In the Word Processing event, Lisa Howard from Sheyenne took 4th place honors.
Other students from LRSC who competed were Deb Riehl and Julie Wagenman in the Business Presentation event.

Employment opportunities
Business, industry and government are all highly information-oriented office environments. Using a variety of computer applications software, today’s administrative assistants create, edit and produce a variety of documents. Job titles associated with positions of this type include administrative assistant, administrative secretary, administrative support, information manager and information specialist.
• 2005 Job Service North Dakota statistics show there were 2,636 jobs available in administrative assistant field in the state of North Dakota and over 280,000 job openings nationwide.
• Demand for administrative assistants is expected to grow 12 percent by 2012, creating 368,000 new positions (U.S. Department of Labor)
