What is IT?

It's an IT world.
Information Technology (IT) is, and will continue to be, the largest industry in the US and worldwide. IT is computers and communications. IT is the driving force of business, education, entertainment, health care and government. IT is all about combining the power of computing with the study of managerial know-how and social issues to effectively solve current problems and to creatively research future IT solutions. IT is the enabler of the information age which evolves around your everyday life.

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that four of the five job categories with the largest expected percentage growth through 2012 in the US will be in IT areas. Demand for qualified IT workers is expected to double in the next 5 years. The Bureau report also places these same IT areas in the highest quartile for salaries.

IT@LRSC
IT program at Lake Region State College is designed to prepare students for careers in computing and/or continuing undergraduate studies. IT program currently offered at both campuses with variety classes available during the day, in the evening, online and as college credit courses through area high schools.

Learn IT
Lake Region State College offers one-year     Certificate Program and two-year Associate in Applied Science degree in Information Technology. IT program offers an exciting dynamic of coursework and includes Web Design, Networking and Programming (transfer) options. Along with option area classes, students take advanced computer courses and general studies courses to ensure their overall success in the workplace. The program is rapidly growing and shifting to prepare students for their transition to a university or the workplace.

Certify Me!
Present your credentials to employers - get certified! Courses taught in IT program provide the skills and knowledge necessary for students to take widely recognized industry certifications which greatly enhance our graduates' employment opportunities. By completing the coursework you have opportunity to become CompTIA A+ Certified Technician, Microsoft Office Specialist, Certified Novell Administrator, Cisco Certified Network Associate and much more.

Get Involved
Join us in IT program at Lake Region State College and get involved in extracurricular activities to expand your knowledge, apply your skills and have fun doing IT! Students in IT program have great opportunities to practice their skills and learn more about IT field by working as IT technician on-campus and/or in the community. Join our campus Computer Club and have fun by learning about IT beyond classroom coursework.

Wanted: IT specialists
Graduates from IT program at Lake Region State College have found work in web development, network administration, computer and technical support and programming. People with Associate in Applied Science degree in IT are often hired as help desk technicians, PC maintenance and repair technicians, network administrators, web designers and database administrators. Students should also be aware of the North Dakota Technology occupations student loan forgiveness program which can reduce indebtedness up to $1,000 per year for up to 3 years.

Transfer option in IT program is designed for hassle-free transfer to colleges with BAS programs - Mayville State University, Minot State University and Valley City State University.
