ABOUT THE PROGRAM

More Information

The Nurse Assistant Program at LRSC was developed to meet the growing demand for Certified Nurse Assistants to work in health care settings such as long-term care facilities, home health care programs, hospitals, developmental disability care facilities, and respite care services.

The Program consists of 75.5 hours of training which is a combination of classroom instruction, lab instruction, and hands-on clinical practice. Each instructional cycle allows time for intensive and individualized instruction. The course is normally delivered in a format that involves attending class full-time for two weeks.

CNA Exam
At the conclusion of the two-week training program, students will be qualified to take the North Dakota Nurse Assistant Certification exam. Successful completion of this test qualifies students to work as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA).

Financial Matters
Some long-term care facilities partner with LRSC to make Nurse Assistant training available. Students who plan to complete only the Nurse Assistant program are not eligible for federal financial aid. Students who are degree-seeking may be eligible to receive federal financial aid.

Testimonials

"The instructor was involved and really made an effort to respond to the posts in each discussion thread. It was clear that this instructor had had some good, hands on HIT experience." Julie T ~ Director, Dakota Nursing Program

"My experience with the LRSC Health IT program has been wonderful. I work full time and am the mother of 3 boys ages 7-15. My full time position is as a HIT consultant, so the information I am receiving from the program is invaluable to me in my job. It is easy to log on for my classes when it is convenient for me and my family. The instructors are very helpful and provide great examples and discussion topics to enable me to get the most out of the coursework. I look forward each week to the new information and discussions with my fellow students and the instructors. The Health IT program at Lake Region State College is a great opportunity for anyone interested in this up and coming field."
Liz L ~ RN, BAN, REACH Consultant

"The HIT Program at Lake Region State College has been an excellent experience. The discussions are great because we are sharing our experiences with EMR software whether good or bad. Even though we are using different software, it is good to see that we are not the only facility that has problems with the software, hardware or vendor. We offer each other positive advice and suggestions that may help. It doesn’t matter what stage of EMR you are in, this is a positive experience and would recommend it to anyone who may be involved with the EMR process, discussions, or the back end of receiving items."
Sahlenia B ~ Chief Financial Officer

"Instructor was very good at keeping us posted and updated. I enjoyed his feedback in the discussions. I enjoyed this class very much. It pertains to my everyday life as I work in a clinic setting. This class was very beneficial and interesting."
Rachael S ~ CCS-P, HIM Supervisor

"I am very glad that I have been taking these courses. It was good to get a glimpse of what we can expect when we all go electronic with EHRs and EMRs. The instructors have given us scenarios that I would not have had exposure to had it not been for these classes." Amy M ~ LPN

"I have been happy with the program thus far. The instructors have been very accommodating with my hectic work schedule! I am learning a lot. This is my first experience with online learning so it is all new to me. I like the flexibility the online learning has given me." Nancy P ~ RN, BSN/ Clinical Informatics

"I think the Health IT course has been beneficial. It has greatly helped me see the whole picture of Health IT and what is needed for me to go forward in the Information Technology of Healthcare. I have attended training at my place of employment and it has been basic, this course has helped me understand the prior training I have received. I have worked in Healthcare for a number of years and transitioning to the EMR system has been trying at times and this course has really helped me understand why a certain thing has to be done a totally different way than what I had been doing in the past. I would recommend this course to anyone who is or will be transitioning to an EMR." Corrine A ~ IT System Support Tech

"I have enjoyed the tremendous amount of information available regarding the HIT field. I also enjoy the convenience of the online courses of being able to complete them when it works best for me." Sherli W
