The Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency (CAAP) is a set of standardized tests developed to measure student’s achievement levels. The CAAP test helps your school evaluate the effectiveness of the education you and your classmates have received, and identify areas that may need to be strengthened. The CAAP test also helps you evaluate your skill levels.

The CAAP test is administered in the Fall and Spring each year. Lake Region State College uses four exams; writing skills, reading, mathematics, and science. Each student is randomly given two of the four tests. Two forms of identification are required to be shown before testing.

All transferring liberal arts majors, who have completed three semesters of full-time course work or 40 credit hours of part-time course work, and students graduating with an Associate in Arts degree from Lake Region State College, must complete the CAAP exam in order to receive a transcript from Lake Region State College.

If you are unsure if you need to take the CAAP exam, please contact Brittany in the Student Services office at 701-662-1512 or email her at

More information regarding the CAAP test as well as sample questions can be found on CAAP website.  Instructors will be asked to excuse students from class, if necessary, so they make take the CAAP test at the scheduled time.
