Karen Clementich of Lake Region State College (LRSC) in Devils Lake received the Outstanding Rural Health Educator/Mentor award at the 2018 Dakota Conference on Rural and Public Health June 14 in Grand Forks. The award recognizes a professional who has made outstanding contributions to the education, development, and placement of new healthcare professionals in rural North Dakota communities.

Clementich is the nursing director and an associate professor of nursing at Lake Region State College. Through her leadership and instruction, she has played a significant role in the success of Lake Region’s nursing programs.

“Karen has proven her value to LRSC through teaching, service, and her commitment to student learning,” said Lloyd Halvorson, vice president for Academic and Student Affairs. “Through her leadership and vision, LRSC has created new and exciting opportunities for nursing.”

Clementich and her team of nursing educators have created a new nursing program in Grand Forks and have increased enrollments in the Mayville and Devils Lake programs. Their efforts are helping address the healthcare needs of rural North Dakota.

The Dakota Conference is a joint effort by the North Dakota Rural Health Association; the North Dakota Public Health Association; Altru Health System of Grand Forks; the UND College of Nursing and Professional Disciplines; and the Center for Rural Health.
