Adult Ed holds graduation

The number of graduates has increased from the Adult Education Center at Lake Region State College.

For the first year, the Adult Education Center held its May 8 graduation ceremonies in the Robert Fawcett Auditorium at LRSC to accommodate the graduates and their guests.

“This was a record number of graduates for the 2014 GED Series tests,” said April Duchscher, director of the Adult Education Center.

Thirty of the 43 graduates were in attendance and walked through the ceremony. More than 300 were in attendance.

“This is a big accomplishment for our students and their families. I’m so proud of each student and how they were able to meet their educational goals,” Duchscher said.

Students received a welcome by LRSC President Doug Darling and were awarded scholarships from LRSC should they continue their education with the college.

Jordan Bertsch was recognized as student of the year.

Adult Learning Center instructor Bridget Hanlan was recognized for receiving the North Dakota Association for Lifelong Learning Educator of the Year Award.

The Devils Lake Adult Learning Center services the Devils Lake community along with a satellite site in Belcourt. Under April’s supervision instruction has continued at each site has also produced graduates each year.

The Devils Lake Adult Learning Center has continued to post a large number of graduates with other centers in the state with the new GED test (Devils Lake has been in the top 3 for the past two years).
