Spotlight on transfer

Many students attend LRSC in order to complete an Associates of Applied Science degree or certificate in one of LRSC’s many outstanding CTE programs. Or, they come to LRSC to get a high quality education in Liberal Arts.

Whatever the focus, LRSC is ready to accommodate the needs of its students. And, if a student decides to take their education to the next level in pursuing a bachelor degree, that is when Patty Wallace, TRiO Transfer Coordinator, steps in.

She sets up advising sessions and tours at various North Dakota four-year campuses, providing opportunities for students to get a ‘feel’ for the campus and program, ensuring it is the appropriate next step for them academically.

Last semester, Patty had a tour and advising session set up at Valley City State University, providing one of our students an opportunity to visit the Information Technology program. He was able to meet with a program advisor, tour the campus, see the residence halls, and talk to a financial aid advisor. He has since successfully transferred to VCSU for the start of Spring 2018!

Additionally, Patty set up a visit at UND, taking four students to talk with advisors from various programs, view the campus, and discuss next steps in transferring to UND. LRSC and TRiO have excellent partnerships in place to assist students in transferring to other NDUS four-year institutions. Transfer visits take place at least twice each semester. If you would like more information, please stop by TRiO/PowerSkills and talk with any TRiO advisor. We are here to help.
