Travel to Europe with LRSC

By   Teresa Tande

From Bavaria to the Black Forest in ten days……and four countries in the mix.  Lake Region State College’s Travel Abroad program for spring 17 promises to be an eclectic adventure in one affordable and safe package.

Participants will fly into cosmopolitan Munich and view the giant Glockenspiel and maybe stop at the famous Hofbrauhaus before taking a solemn look at Dachau, the first Nazi concentration camp in Germany. There is an opportunity to tour the Bavarian wonder, Neuschwanstein Castle, the inspiration for Disneyland’s iconic Sleeping Beauty castle.

On the way to the Floating City of Venice, the bus will travel through Innsbruck, Austria, the intersection of several Alpine passes. Of course, when in Venice, riding a gondola down the Grand Canal is a must. Then settle in for  the drive to the Swiss Alps, which rise behind the shores of Lake Lucerne, providing the backdrop to one of Switzerland’s most picturesque cities. Mount Pilatus beckons the brave and the hearty to ride to its top and be rewarded with stunning panoramic views of the city below.

The trip winds down as the bus travels through the legendary Black Forest and into Heidelberg with its beautiful medieval streets. The last stop is more castle:  Heidleberg and its enormous wine barrel.

Students can experience first-hand what they are learning about in their humanities courses. The trip can also be budgeted into student’s financial aid.

Community members not afraid of walking are also invited to join the tour, as part of LRSC’s commitment to lifelong. For anyone who hasn’t traveled overseas before, this is an ideal way to start. The tour company takes care of all the arrangements from takeoff to landing back home. Even if  one has traveled before, the allure of the Alps and travel through the land medieval knights fought for should be enough to have you travel again.
