Don't miss Sweeney Todd

By   Erin Wood

The Lake Region State College Playmakers are gearing up for terrifying Fall production!  Just in time for Halloween the Playmakers will present Christopher Bond’s bloody play about revenge, love, and meat-pies; Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

The story is best known as Stephen Sondheim’s musical which was recently made into a movie starring Johnny Depp.  The story, however, has been around since the 1840’s.  This version is the play that inspired the much loved musical.

When a barber, wrongly accused of theft and sentenced to prison in Australia, returns home to find his wife dead and his daughter in the care of the same judge that falsely imprisoned him, Sweeney Todd (Shaun Anderson) begins to plan his revenge.  With the help of his neighbor, Mrs. Lovett the pie-maker (Angelica Rodriguez), Todd does not only plot revenge on the judge but begins to take his anger out on society.  With many twists and turns this melodrama is likely make the audience laugh-out-loud and scream in terror as they witness the maniacal method that Sweeney Todd achieves his revenge.

The production also features Eric Gilbertson, Kaitlyn Halvorson, Heather Brown, Dilyn Plemel, Skyler Bergstad, Rudy Horak, Paige Prekker, Brittany Harris, Hannah Hardcastle, Korien Witmer, Kaitlyn Hillebrand, and Maria Hawkins

Show times are Thursday- Saturday October 13-15 at 7:30 and a matinee Sunday October 16 at 2:30.
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is produced in association with Samuel French LTD.
