Each year during Lake Region State College graduation ceremonies, the Community College Foundation recognizes a faculty member for excellence in educating.

The Excellence in Educating Award is sponsored by the Community College Foundation and is given out yearly to and outstanding faculty member as voted on by his or her fellow faculty.

The recipient of this year’s award is Tammy Riggin. Here is some information about this year’s winner as read before the presentation at graduation:

This year’s recipient grew up on a farm east of Devils Lake with her parents and two older brothers. She graduated from Devils Lake High School and pursued a bachelor’s degree in Psychology at UND. She received the Mark Refsell award for “most outstanding student” while completing her master’s degree in Health and Human Performance at the University of Montana.

While she loved the Montana mountains and still misses them to this day, she and her husband moved back to Devils Lake to begin raising their family of two sons and a daughter. She is a wonderful asset to  the campus and our community. This individual has always had a passion for fitness, exercise, and sports throughout her whole life. That devotion is seen through the many organized events she has helped put together in the community.  She is actively engaged in opportunities to help both young and old through coaching, running, and other health & fitness events.

And now about her teaching……As an instructor for Lake Region State College since 2007, this individual’s education & experience have been matched to her talents within the classroom. Her dedication and commitment to student success is powerful. She led in the development of a new personal trainer program for the campus; which continues to grow in enrollments.  She teaches both on-campus and online; and her students have gone on to work in the fitness industry as well as continue onto successful bachelor’s degree programs.  When she isn’t in the classroom, she is down in the gym or weight room working with our student athletes helping them become stronger and more adaptive for collegiate level sports.

If you asked her, she would tell this is her dream job and she loves being able to give back to her community and her students….her energy seems to have no end….but now it is time for us to give back to her.
