Career and Tech Ed Open House Feb. 9

By   Erin Wood

Lake Region State College will be holding a Career and Technical Education Day on Tuesday, February 9th.

This will be an opportunity for area schools to come and have students meet with instructors of some of the various programs LRSC has to offer. There will be hands on experience in the different areas of Business, Technical Education, and Health and Human Services.

Schools are able to choose what time of the day to begin. There will be sessions beginning at 9:15, 10:15, and 11:15 a.m. Each session is three hours long and will include lunch.

“We are filling up quite quickly. Students will be able to pick one of the three tracks listed above and spend a few hours learning more about the programs, meet with instructors, tour the college’s technical center and ag center and experience what choosing that education path could be like,” said Erin Wood, LRSC Director of Development & Community Relations.

Programs to explore

The business track includes a look into Accounting/Business Administration, Administrative Assistant/ Office Management, Marketing, and Information Technology. These are great programs for students that are looking into going into the business field.
A variety of job opportunities exist locally and on the state level. These programs allow for students to earn a degree (or other credentials if available such as certificate or diploma) and also opens the opportunity to transfer to another institution for a professional degree.

The Technical Education track includes a hands on experience of Automotive Technology, Precision Agriculture, Simulator Maintenance Technician, and Wind Energy Technician. These are all areas in high demand and LRSC has some of the best resources to offer students top of the line education in these fields.

The third track, Health and Human Services, includes the Fitness Trainer Technician, Nursing, Early Childhood Education, Peace Officer Training, and American Sign Language programs – also careers in high demand. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nursing is amongst the top occupations in terms of job growth between now and 2022.

“Plus, LRSC has one of the newest, state of the art, nursing education facilities in our new Bergstrom Technical Center,” Wood said.

Lake Region State College encourages students from grades 9-12 start looking into programs that interest them, as LRSC is a leader in helping North Dakota students get a head start on college courses. LRSC has offered dual credit courses since 1990, allowing students to earn college credit before graduating high school.

“With the addition of the new Bergstrom Technical Center, LRSC is also able to offer a much more hands on learning in a lot of fields that truly rely on this kind of experience to produce students well prepared for these careers,” Wood said.

Lake Region State College looks forward to students joining us on campus on February 9th and spending some time exploring the many options LRSC offers. There will be instructors and faculty available to answer any questions students may have as well as point students in the right direction when applying for a program.
