IMG_6247--350x233-.jpgThe Clothesline Project, recently displayed at Lake Region State College, hosted over fifty visitors to bear witness to women and children who are victims and survivors of violence in North Dakota. The Clothesline Project displays t-shirts which are decorated by victims of violence, including women and children, to represent their experiences.

Each decorated shirt is a different color representing the violent act. A yellow or beige shirt represents battered or assaulted women, a red shirt belongs to children who have witnessed violence in their homes, pink or green shirts are for women who have been raped or sexually assaulted, blue or green is for survivors of incest and sexual abuse, purple or lavender shows who have been attacked because of sexual orientation and a white shirt is a woman who has died from violence.

IMG_6251--359x640-.jpgThe goal of the project is to increase awareness and to educate the public about violence against women and to also help with the healing process for those who have been a victim or have lost a love one due to violence.

Lake Region State College has hosted the Clothesline Project several times over the years. The Clothesline Project is sponsored by CAWS North Dakota and can be displayed in businesses, schools, churches and other locations upon request.

To host a display or learn how to contribute a shirt, contact CAWS North Dakota at 1-888-255-6240.
