Actors receive honor

By   Erin Wood

Two Lake Region State College actors will be taking their talents back to the stage for a scholarship opportunity.

Jasmine Swinland and Kaitlyn Halvorson, both originally from Devils Lake, are the first LRSC students to be nominated for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship Competition.

LRSC Playmakers Director and drama instructor Casey Paradies said the student actors were critiqued by an outside judge during one of the productions of the recent Crimes of the Heart production that took place at LRSC in November.

The competition for the acting scholarship will take place at the American College Theatre Festival in Minneapolis, Minn., later this academic year.

“Jasmine and Kaitlyn will be competing against students from our seven-state region,” Paradies said.

That region includes North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska.

The actors will present their scholarship application performances at LRSC in January before attending the competition.

“Please wish them luck and look for their public performance the first week of next semester,” Paradies said.
