LRSC Leading the Way

February is National Career & Technical Education month. But at Lake Region State College, career and technical education is recognized daily.

“We have innovative programs here at LRSC with experienced faculty who educate and prepare our students for the workforce utilizing real world, hands-on applications,” said Dr. Doug Darling, LRSC President.

Lake Region State College serves students wishing to start the first half of a bachelor’s degree and those that are eager to enter the workforce in the areas of technology, health care, agriculture, energy, business, law enforcement, and many more trades and technical areas.

With almost 20 career and technical degree programs, Lake Region State College offers unique
and varied programs to provide students with exciting job opportunities and advanced positions of responsibilities. Students can choose to earn a variety of industry certifications within those programs, including certificates, diplomas, and associate’s degrees.

Lake Region State College works hard to make sure all programs have the capabilities required for today’s high-tech world.

“Technology impacts both our personal and professional lives. Our students learn to apply technology to solve real world problems they will encounter in the workforce and at home,” Darling added.

The advisory boards that work with each technical program provide feedback about technological and curriculum needs for programs to ensure students are learning skills and gaining knowledge that employers look for when hiring.

“We can adapt curriculum to employer needs quite rapidly so we don’t have gaps in regard to skill sets,” Darling said.

Technology also has allowed LRSC to deliver programs to more outreach areas. Many degrees are available online or by taking programs to a site with a high need. The college delivers Peace Officer Training in the cities of Fargo and Grand Forks each summer, Bismarck and Devils Lake each fall, and Minot each spring. The college’s Precision Ag program is looking at a mobile training lab to take education to other areas of the state and upper Plains. Nursing is delivered in Mayville, Grand Forks and Devils Lake.

Capital improvement changes at LRSC’s campus in Devils Lake transformed nursing education along with enhancing other programs. The new Bergstrom Technical Center provides 24,000 square feet of new educational space.  The expansion created needed learning space for nursing classroom and hands-on instruction. The college’s wind energy, automotive technology, electronics, and workforce training departments have enhanced educational facilities.

Lake Region State College also has a faculty and staff who create the astonishing atmosphere that allows students to explore and be educated for careers that will present opportunities for a lifetime of learning and learning to make a living.

Dedicated instructors are finding ways to enhance student learning through hands-on experience, research, and service learning projects. Our new precision ag program provides internships that give students a front row seat to the ever changing technologies shaping this field of study. Wind energy students have a live laboratory with the college wind turbine, exposing real world scenarios to supplement classroom instruction.

Lake Region State College has been accredited since 1973 and serves a vital role in the community, region, state, and nation for preparing students for success. For more information contact (701) 662-1598.
