The Dakota Nursing Program at Lake Region State College is expanding its practical nurse program to Grand Forks.

The N.D. State Board of Nursing at its May 16th meeting approved the delivery of the program to Grand Forks. The North Dakota University System and the college’s accrediting body, the Higher Learning Commission, also approved delivering the program at a distance. Classes will start this August and will be held at Achieve Therapy and Fitness, 1425 South Columbia Rd.

A need for additional practical nurses in the Grand Forks area exists, said Karen Clementich, coordinator of the Lake Region State College nursing site.

“The Dakota Nursing Program can be of assistance in meeting the need for practical nurses in the area,” she said. “Lake Region State College successfully provides high quality nursing education. Practical nurse graduates from LRSC have had a 100 percent pass rate on NCLEX-PN exams since the 2010-2011 academic year.”

The demand for qualified, safe, and effective nurses is critical throughout North Dakota. That need spurred the creation of the Dakota Nursing Program in 2004 - whose mission and vision is to respond to the nursing needs of the people of North Dakota by delivering a high-quality nursing educational program to students through innovative instruction. The Dakota Nursing Program includes Bismarck State College, Lake Region State College, Dakota College at Bottineau, and Williston State College.

The Dakota Nursing Program at LRSC provides a one-year practical nurse program and two-year associate degree nurse (2-year RN) program.  Lake Region State College has offered nursing education at a distance to Langdon, Grafton, Cooperstown, Carrington, and Northwood in the past. Lake Region State College currently offers its practical nurse and associate degree nurse (RN) programs at its campus in Devils Lake and in Mayville.

The program reaches students with a combination of face-to-face lab/clinical classes and video networking at sites across the state to educate future nurses.

Open houses will be held starting next week. For more information contact the LRSC Nursing program at (701) 662-1644 or 1-800-443-1313, ext. 21644 or
