The Lake Region State College Vocal Ensemble, under the direction of Gary Fulsebakke, had a triumphant debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
In February, the LRSC ensemble joined forces with four other community college choirs from around the Midwest to form a 110-voice choir under the direction of Peter Eklund. The joint choir practiced for four hours each day for three days before the concert.
The concert took place on Sunday evening, February 16th at 8:30 pm. The group performed the Schubert Mass in G along with a chamber orchestra and four soloists. The mass choir received a standing ovation from the nearly sold out audience. Carnegie Hall is considered to be one of the finest concert halls in the world, and is especially famous for its near perfect acoustics.
Such an experience is one students who participate in Vocal Ensemble will never forget.
“The singers and director would like to thank all those who contributed financially to help make the trip a reality. It was truly an event to remember,” Fulsebakke said.
In addition to performing at Carnegie Hall, the vocal ensemble was able to enjoy the sights of New York City, including many musical attractions.
In 2012 Lake Region State College started to offer students additional opportunities to participate in vocal ensemble, band, class guitar, private lessons (voice, piano, and various instruments) along with classes in theory and music history.
