LRSC through the Years Post

Message from the Foundation

I can’t imagine a more exciting time to be a part of Lake Region State College.  My years of service to the college as a member of the Community College Foundation Board of Directors and as of January 1st, its sitting President, have entertained my eyes with so many great accomplishments by the students, staff and friends of Lake Region State College.  The staff is top notch receiving national awards of excellence in their fields of work, our students have over exceeded in both the classroom and their activities and our friends have gone above and beyond to support the college as it looks forward to the next 75 years.

There are so many things the foundation is striving to succeed in for the college.  All of which tell stories of where we have come from and where we want to go.  Our endowment pool has grown to over 140 and continues to climb.  Historically they were purchased to provide scholarship opportunities for specific degrees or those who come from specific communities.   We continue to promote these foundational ideas but have expanded to program type endowments where the money goes to the program to help make the educational experience better for the students and provide more opportunities for research and new ideas.

The facilities have grown.  The addition of the wind energy program on campus has added a new fixture soaring into the sky north of campus.  This new wind turbine provides hands on experience for the students but also provides all the energy needed to power, heat, and cool the campus.  The Erlandson Technical Center expanded and received a new name.  We have worked hard to fundraise to improve this building and with many gifts including a lead gift by the Bergstrom Family, the Bergstrom Technical Center is now an everyday reality.  The Robert Fawcett Auditorium has been and is in need of technical improvements to lighting, the sound system, and all that makes it a quality venue to host programs at Lake Region.  We are working hard and thanks to the Fawcett Family, are much closer to making this a reality.

We have added the Precision Ag program to campus.  This program is housed in the former Case Dealership building north of campus.  We currently rent the facility north of campus but realize it is not the ideal situation to support such a needed program.  This is a dilemma the foundation is excited to be a part in the coming years.  Do we purchase the building or do we bring the program to campus and build a new facility to house the program.  I’m excited to see what happens and know whatever the decision the leadership of the college makes will be supported by the foundation.

Everything spoken of is not all encompassing of what has taken place or will at Lake Region State College.  My goal is to share the many ways to give and so many needs on campus.  I’m sure there is something that can motive anyone to make Lake Region a better place.  Students, staff and the facilities can all use our help.  We have matching funds from the State of North Dakota until December 31st of this year to help funds grow along with many State and Federal tax credits to help you make a gift.  We can explain all this to you at the foundation office or visit our website at
