4/9/14 - The LRSC Royals softball team traveled to Bismarck today to play its first conference games of the season. In the first game the Royals came up short and lost 4-1. The Royals had just three hits but left 13 runners on base. Breanne Heinrichs, Macie Helten, and Brianne Hunt had the hits for LRSC. The Royals took an early lead in the second inning but BSC came back to tie it in the bottom half of the inning. The BSC Mystics score 2 runs in the 4th and one more in the 6th. Breanne Heinrichs handled the pitching duties going 6 innings, facing 25 batters, on 5 hits, no walks, 6 strikeouts, and 1 earned run.
Game two went to 11 innings with the Royals winning by a score of 12-10. In the game, Samone Motley and Jenny Mertens each had a home run and there were 20 hits by the LRSC team. Rebecca Gurski and Brianne Hunt each had 2 doubles while Macie Helten and Jenny Mertens had 1 a piece. Each player in the LRSC line-up had at least 1 hit but left a total of 16 runners on base.The score of the game went back and forth the first 6 innings where 10 runs were scored by each team. The score remained tied at 10 until the top of the 11th when Jenny Mertens hit a 2 run home run to put the Royals ahead to stay. Morgan Titus pitched all 11 innings, facing 48 batters, giving up 10 runs (5 of them earned), 3 walks, and 3 strike outs. She did not allow a run the last 5 innings. The Royals are now 1-1 in conference play and 2-14 overall.
