The Lake Region State College fastpitch team continues to stay busy. On Tuesday, the squad traveled to Bottineau for a double-header.
The Royals lost both games to Dakota College of Bottineau. In game one, the Royals took an early lead after a solo homerun by Rebecca Gurski in the third inning. Then, in the bottom of the fifth, they scored five runs on five hits and three errors to end the game on the eight-run rule. Breanne Heinrichs pitched the five innings giving up 10 hits, on four walks and one strike out. For the Royals, Samone Motley and Brianne Hund had the only other hits besides Gurski's homerun.
In game two, Dakota College jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after one inning, but the Royals cam back in the 5th scoring four runs. But in the bottom of the 5th Dakota College scored three runs with two outs to end the game with a score of 14-6. Jenny Mertens had a solo homerun for the Royals, Hunt had two hits, Motley, Gurski and Morgan Titus each contributed one. Titus also pitched the game giving up 14 runs on 15 hits, with four walks and fours strike-outs.
"We just couldn't close out the innings and get that big play to stop their big innings. We had a great effort by the ladies and they never gave up," said Lake Region State College fastpitch coach Kory Boehmer. "It is a testament to what they have done this year and the things that we have gone through so far."
