The Royals started their weekend sweep defeating Dakota County Technical College 76-71 on Saturday afternoon in St. Paul, MN.
The Royals were led in scoring by Melvin Langstaff with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Devin Tohm added 13 and St. Paul natives Malik Durant-Haines and Kharie Kirkland each added 11 and 10 points as well. “We played well today. We made mistakes, but we took the lead and didn’t let up for 40 minutes,” said Head Coach Joe Kittell.
On Sunday the Royals faced Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. The Royals came out with great energy and led by 11 at the half. Lake Region State never let up and won with the final score of 86-71. Malik Durant-Haines led all scorers with 21 points and Devin Tohm made 4 three-point baskets on his way to 20 points. Pat Thomas and Melvin Langstaff also contributed to the victory with 14 and 13 points. “This may have been our most complete game as far as energy and focus is concerned. Concordia came to play adding some varsity guys to their roster and we responded very well,” said Coach Kittell.
“It’s hard to win on the road. It’s even harder to lead for almost 80 minutes of college basketball. We did both! Our team got better this weekend. I think when we look back on our season we will point to this weekend as a turning point,” stated Head Coach Joe Kittell.
