Mission and Goals

Lake Region State College Mission

Lake Region State College (LRSC) considers athletics an integral component of the college community and thus follows the LRSC institutional mission. The drive for excellence in athletics is equal to the academic mission of the college to achieve greatness in teaching and service. This commitment to excellence in athletics implies that LRSC will provide excellent leadership with appropriate facilities and support services to allow its student-athletes to compete at the highest level of intercollegiate competition plus to reach their objectives in educational and academic growth.

Lake Region State College Athletics believes the student athlete should represent themselves the same as the general student body, with like academic credentials and the same chance of success. The individual rights, welfare and academic goals of the student athlete should not be compromised by the College's desire to conduct successful athletic programs. Participation in athletic programs, while supplementing the student's formal education, should progress to the formation of a well-rounded, more open-minded individual.

Integrity is crucial to the athletics’ program. Without integrity the true meaning of sport is lost. LRSC believes that administrators, coaches, and student athletes, in concert with all members of the Institutions’ community, must share a total obligation to follow the rules and regulations of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), the Mon-Dak Athletic Conference, and Lake Region State College, in their effort to be successful.

Lake Region State College Athletics follows the National Junior College Athletic Association's rules and regulations believing that student-athletes, coaches and staff should adhere to such fundamental values as respect, equality, civility, truthfulness and accountability. The commitment to nondiscrimination, equal opportunity, and affirmative action is a primary goal. LRSC provides equal opportunity to education, employment, and participation in college sponsored activities without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

 Strength and Conditioning

Strength and conditioning is important for any sport in order to improve performance and decrease the risk of injury. LRSC has developed a program that is position specific and includes in-season and off-season workouts.

Off-season is the time for our athletes to really increase their strength and power. Student athletes may enroll in a course that provides exercising to be completed 3-4 days a week. The course will include heavier weight training for the major muscle groups, exercises to increase core strength and speed and agility drills.

In-season workouts do still exist. Exercises need to be completed to stay strong and keep the athlete healthy. These workouts include lower repetition and higher weight to keep that strength base but allow for less time in the weight room. It is an expectation that LRSC athletes remain strong and strive to improve themselves not only in sport specific skills but also in the speed, strength, and agility areas. Tracking of progress in strength will occur and be an integral part of the program.

Facilities

Lake Region State College is striving to provide its student athletes with quality facilities to practice, play, and improve on their skills. Through the efforts of the athletic department, LRSC Booster club, Lake Region State College Foundation, and LRSC Administration and employees, the improvement of the facilities is an ongoing effort.

Scholarships

Lake Region State College will make every effort to assist student athletes through scholarship. Funds are made available through tuition waivers and various other scholarships (endowment, academic, & athletic). The athletic department will strive to offer competitive funding opportunities for students in order to provide greater opportunity for student enrollment and recruitment of athletic talent.
