Entering Students

 

First Year Student Admissions

You are a 1st year student if you have not taken courses at a post-secondary institution since you graduated from high school.

Checklist for Admissions - must complete:

  1. Application for Admissions - choose First Year Student as admit type. A one time $35 application fee is required.
  2. High School transcript request form or GED test results
  3. Immunization record
  4. ACT or Compass testing
Lake Region State College is an open-admission college. After submitting the required documents students will be mailed a letter of acceptance and information about registering for classes.

Returning Student Admissions

You are a Returning Student if you have previously taken classes at Lake Region State College after you graduated from high school.

Checklist for Admissions - must complete:

  1. Application for Admissions - choose Returning Student as admit type.
  2. High School transcript request form or GED test results
  3. Immunization record
  4. ACT or Compass testing
Lake Region State College is an open-admission college. After submitting the required documents students will be mailed a letter of acceptance and information about registering for classes.

Transfer Student Admissions

You are a Transfer Student if you have taken courses from a post-secondary institution other than Lake Region State College after you graduated from high school.

Credits earned by students who have completed post-secondary courses after high school at regionally accredited colleges or universities may be accepted for transfer credit at LRSC. General guidelines for acceptance of transfer credit:

  1. Official transcripts from all institutions previously attended must be provided by degree-seeking students.  To be “official” the transcript must be in an unopened envelope sealed by the sending institution.
  2. The Registrar’s Office will review and record transfer credit from previous courses within two weeks of receipt of official transcripts whenever possible, as follows:
    • Remedial courses will not be accepted for college credit, but may fulfill prerequisite requirements for college level courses.
    • Common numbered courses will transfer in as the direct equivalent course at LRSC if such exists; or will be applied to General Education subject area requirements, (such as Arts/ Humanities, Social Science, Math/Science, etc. if appropriate,) otherwise will transfer in as general elective credit.
    • Institutions within the North Dakota University System have streamlined the transfer process between campuses with the General Education Requirement Transfer Agreement (GERTA) that is explained  in detail at: http://www.ndus.edu/students/transfer-within-to-campuses/
    • Credits from institutions on the quarter system will be converted to semester hour credits.
    • Credit by examination, life experience, or any credit awarded by another institution will be excluded in transfer credit evaluations. (Additional documentation must be provided for evaluation.)
    • Graduate level courses, as defined on the transferring institution’s transcript legend, will not be considered for transfer.
  3. Students intending to graduate from LRSC must earn their final 15 semester hours of credit at LRSC.
  4. Transfer credits will not be included in the student’s institutional or cumulative GPA at LRSC.

High School Student Admission to College

You are an Early Entry Student if you are a high school junior or senior and wish to get early start on your college coursework.
You are Dual Credit Student if you are a high school junior or senior and would like to take class for both high school and college credit.

Checklist for Admissions - must complete:

  1. Application for Admissions - choose Dual Credit Student (both high school and college credit course) or Early Entry Student (college only credit) as admit type. A one time $35 application fee is required. 
  2. High School transcript request form or GED test results
  3. Immunization record  If you are taking classes on the Lake Region State College campus.
  4. High school transcript showing proof for Junior status and 3.0 grade point average or GED test results.

Collaborative Student Admissions

You are considered a Collaborative Student if you are earning a degree from Lake Region State College but taking a course(s) at another North Dakota University System Institution within the same term. Lake Region State College is your home institution.  The institution where you are taking a course, but not receiving your degree from, is your provider institution.

To qualify as a collaborative student, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a fully admitted student and be receiving your degree from Lake Region State College
  • You cannot have any negative service indicators preventing enrollment
  • You must be enrolled in at least one course at Lake Region State College for the term
  • You cannot exceed 18 semester hours total for the term without appropriate approval
  • You must meet all prerequisites set by the provider institution
  • Graduate level and correspondence courses are not eligible for collaborative registration

Registering as a collaborative student may be a benefit if you are using the credits for Financial Aid at Lake Region State College. Consider you collaborative registration very carefully and if you have any questions contact:

As part of your Collaborative Registration, Lake Region State College will complete the following:

  • Credits taken at provider institutions will be combined with credits at LRSC for financial aid purposes
  • Tuition owed to your provider institution will be added to your bill at Lake Region State College
  • Bookstore charges will be added to your account at Lake Region State College
  • A transcript from your provider institution will automatically be requested at the end of the semester and credits will be transferred to Lake Region State College

Collaborative Registration Process:

  • Submit the Collaborative Course Form which is emailed to Student Affairs at LRSC
  •  LRSC reviews your request and verifies your eligibility to take the requested courses collaboratively
  • LRSC passes the request to the provider institution
  • Provider institution registers you in Campus Connection and emails you a copy of your schedule.  You are not registered until you receive this confirmation email.
  • Once you are registered at the provider institution a hold will be placed on your account preventing you from making any changes.  To make changes to your schedule, you must email the Collaborative Coordinator at Lake Region State College.
  • All drop and refund deadlines at Lake Region State College will apply to this course
Due to the turnaround time, you are strongly encouraged to submit your registration request before the first day of classes.

Continuing Student Admissions

You are a Continuing Student if you have already earned a degree from Lake Region State College and wish to continue taking classes for self-enhancement, self-satisfaction, or other personal reasons related to life-long learning.

Checklist for Admissions - must complete:

  1. Application for Admissions - choose Continuing Student as admit type.
  2. Immunization record if you are taking classes on the Devils Lake campus

Non-Degree Student Admissions

You are a Non-Degree Student if you do not intend to earn a degree from Lake Region State College and wish to take classes for self-enhancement, self-satisfaction, or other personal reasons related to life-long learning.

  1. Application for Admissions - choose Non-Degree Student as admit type. A one time $35 application fee is required.
  2. Immunization record if you are planning to take classes on the Lake Region State College campus
