The Early Childhood Education program at Lake Region State College is designed to prepare students to work with children in childcare facilities and other settings, including: recreation centers, schools, private homes and children's institutions. You will plan learning experiences for children, gain knowledge of the principles of human growth and development and practice skills in guiding the behavior of children. The program provides opportunities to explore careers which require knowledge of children's ages and stages an develop communication skills necessary for positive relationships with children, parents and co-workers.
The Early Childhood Education program requires 154 hours of a non-paid internship (EC 297) for completion of both the Certificate and the Associate in Applied Science. This allows students to gain valuable work experience with professionals while receiving academic credit. The internship may be carried out at the childcare center on the Devils Lake Campus, the Grand Forks Air Force Base, or at other childcare facilities in the community. This hands-on experience with young children allows you to apply the knowledge you have gained in the classroom.
